The Bankhouse Inn

A child and dog friendly pub serving food with WiFi in Hixon.

Hixon is a large, pleasant village close to Stafford – just off the A51 Lichfield to Stone road. The Bank House dates back over 400 years, we added a new room in 2006 during which we had a number of specialists inspect the pub. The story of the Bank House is in itself the story of the English country pub, it was originally a farm. Pubs with bar counters emerged in the early 1800’s before then pubs were generally someones front room and beer was brought up from the cellar in jugs. The Bank House operated as this type of ‘parlour pub’, the beer was brewed on the premises whilst the rest still operated as a farm. In time it became established as the village pub and the farm was sold on. The building is ancient; old oak beams and low ceilings betray its origins as a farm house. It hasn’t changed much in 400 years, the addition of bar counters and our new room being the main changes. These changes allowed us to fit a modern kitchen so we can now offer great pub food as well as well as great real ale.

One of the prettiest pubs in our Brewery Tap estate, you will find a public (and cosy) bar to the left, where on most days you will find a taker for a pub game, and the lounge bar to the right – both bars with log-burners. Lovely in the summer with its array of hanging baskets, plenty of garden benches to the front, and plenty of space to park in the Parish car park bang opposite.

Banks's Sunbeam 4.2 Banks's Brewery

A gloriously zesty blonde, brewed using a combination of classic English hops from Hereford giving a subtle but complex bitterness and North American Yakima Valley hops releasing citrus, grapefruit zestyness.

Tasting Notes: Sunbeam has a vibrant hop aroma and a shimmering blonde colour. The rich gooseberry and zesty grapefruit taste create and easy drinking beer with a clean long after taste.g

Eagle IPA 3.6 The Eagle Brewery

Made from natural mineral water from our own well, this ale has been a firm favourite around Bedford over two centuries.

Tasting Notes:
