George Inn

A pub serving food with WiFi and a garden in Chippenham.

A public house that's steeped in history, dating back to the 14th Century.

Here at The George Inn the sun may be trying to smile but you can warm up by our Medieval fire place, have a cup of tea, coffee or other drink, we offer range of home-made meals and snacks.

The National Trust village of Lacock dates back to 13th century and remained largely unchanged over the centuries with its many lime washed, half-timbered and stone buildings. One of those buildings, The George Inn, dates back to circa 1361. We have an amazing history, please just ask us, our team are always happy to chat about our pub!

Visitors are enthralled with tales about the olden days, when meat was cooked on a spit which was turned by the wheel using specially bred dogs called Turnspit. During the colder days and winter months this fireplace glows with a log fire enhancing some of the pub décor. Click here for more history..

From then up to the current day The George Inn has remained a popular destination for both tourists and locals alike. Serving great food and great beer it is an ideal spot to meet with friends & family and relax over a few drinks or wonderful home cooked meal. The George has retained its Olde English character with original beams exposed to give private and cosy atmosphere as one of main features. This iconic pub is famous for its medieval open fire place with a dog wheel.

6X 4.1 Wadworth Brewery

6X is our iconic ale, brewed for over 90 years with a national following of drinkers always seeking it out; it’s a beacon on the bar for many ale drinkers. 6X is the classic premium ale that has made Wadworth famous.

Tasting Notes: This hand crafted ale is a timeless amber-hued beer distinctively full bodied and eminently drinkable. The nose is malty and fruity with a balancing hoppy note. The delicious malt and fruit character emerge even more intensely on the palate with a long lingering malty finish.

Henry’s IPA 3.4 Wadworth Brewery

The main staple session ale, our IPA is an easy drinking all-round ale and is ideal for any pub’s session drinkers. It is light copper coloured with delicate malt aromas, cereal notes and a lingering finish.

Tasting Notes: This is a traditionally crafted India Pale Ale with a malt-led flavour and character. On the nose, our IPA provides a delightful malt aroma. On the palate it delivers clean and refreshing light malt notes combined with the classic strong hop flavour, and finishes with a crisp bitterness.

Horizon 4.0 Wadworth Brewery

Wadworth’s own pale golden ale with citrus and hop aromas makes this an ideal choice especially when served cool. A great beer for those new to ale, it’s brewed with Pale Ale malt and four hop varieties.

Tasting Notes: This is an easy drinking yet full flavoured golden ale created using a blend of classic and New World hops. A great beer with food or savoured on its own. Its zesty citrus aromas overlay a heart of classic hoppiness. The zesty notes follow through on the palate backed with a light maltiness and the finish is crisp, tangy and refreshing.
