The Bell Hotel enjoys a central position on Market Hill in the delightful historic old Suffolk wool town of Clare. Situated at the head of the River Stour, the town was the gateway to East Anglia in medieval times and its history is reflected in the 13th century Augustinian Priory, the ruins of Clare Castle and the medieval town church. The nearest major centres are Sudbury 10 miles, Bury St Edmunds 20 miles, Colchester and the city of Cambridge 25 miles equidistant, Ipswich 30 miles and Stansted Airport/M11 junction 36 miles.

Clare is a lovely town just 40 minutes from Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds, and close to the medieval villages of Lavenham and Long Melford. Clare has several Antique shops and an Auction House, a large Priory Park and plenty of lovely cafes and pubs.

The Bell Hotel is a beautiful half-timbered Tudor style coaching inn dating back to the 16th century. The Bell Hotel was originally a Coaching Inn and has retained these traditional features. We serve great food in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The fifteen en-suite bedrooms have been tastefully furnished and all have modern facilities. Ground floor rooms are also available. We also have a romantic 4 poster suite which is popular with couples enjoying a honeymoon or wedding anniversary break.

If you'd like to eat with us you have the choice of our more formal 'Tudor' restaurant, where we serve delicious homemade, A La Carte meals, or there is our Garden Room / Conservatory menu, again with homemade food and fresh vegetables. Our steak and ale pie is not to be missed and contains beer locally brewed in Clare.

We are happy to serve bar food in the bar area and bistro.
