The Woodins Shades

A child friendly pub serving food with WiFi in Bishopsgate.

You will find The Woodins Shades in Bishopsgate London within a short stroll of Liverpool Street, Spitalfields Market and Middlesex Street - however you won't find another like it.

Step in to discover a traditional pub of unique character, revered for its eclectic range of real ales and its quality pub food, which are served, as they should be, with a generous measure of famous British hospitality.

For many years, The Woodins Shades has been a favourite meeting place for the traders of Petticoat Lane and Spitalfields Markets. Petticoat Lane is a historic Sunday street market but in the Middle Ages, it was a tree-lined country road called Hog's Lane, possibly because pigs were kept in nearby fields. A map of 1608 shows that by then it had acquired its 'new' Peticote Lane name, a name perhaps derived from the sellers of clothes.

The Woodins Shades is one of many rare gems in theNicholson's collection of great British pubs, reputed for their distinctive buildings, intriguing history and vibrant atmosphere.

Camden Hells Lager 4.6 Camden Town Brewery

Hells is the lovechild of their two favourite German beer styles - Helles and Pilsner. Clean, crisp and dry.

Tasting Notes: A classic lager that’s exactly what it should be: easy-drinking, crisp and dry with beautiful bubbles. Clean and refreshing with a dry hop finish, you can taste the great depth of flavour which comes from the long, slow maturation in tank. This is how a great lager should taste.

Ghost Ship 4.1 Adnams

Ghost Ship is inspired by one of Adnams’ most haunted pubs in one of the UK’s most haunted villages, the Bell at Walberswick. It's a Pale Ale with a pithy bitterness and a malty backbone.

Tasting Notes: This is a Pale Ale with a pithy bitterness and a malty backbone. Brewed with a selection of malts – Pale Ale, Rye Crystal and Cara – Adnams use Citra and a blend of other American hop varieties to create some great citrus flavours

Guinness Draught 4.2 Diageo

Rich and creamy. Distinctive, Ruby Red colour. Velvety in its finish. This iconic beer was developed in 1959 and launched as a celebration of the 200 years anniversary of Arthur Guinness signing his 9,000-year lease.

Tasting Notes: Aroma: Sweet smelling with a coffee and malty nose
Flavour: Perfect balance of bitter and sweet with malt and roast characters Palate: Smooth, creamy and balanced

Haze Machine 4.8 Signature Brew

We challenged our brewers to create a HAZY PALE with live gigs in mind. The team did us proud and delivered this outstanding juice bomb, absolutely loaded to the brim with pineapple and grapefruit notes at a lower ABV than the typical Hazy/NEIPA to keep things sessionable and make this beer the perfect live gig companion. Haze Machine really does need to be tasted to be believed and what's more, the recipe is certified Gluten Free, making for a drinking experience that's lighter on the stomach. We guarantee you've never tried a beer quite like this.

Tasting Notes:

Landlord 4.3 Timothy Taylor's Brewery

Landlord is Timothy Taylor’s iconic flagship beer – a revered, nationally recognised classic. Four-time CAMRA Supreme Champion Beer of Britain and the UK’s top-selling cask beer. Brewed with Golden Promise malt, whole-leaf Goldings, Fuggles, and Savinjski Goldings hops, and pure Knowle Spring water, Landlord is crafted with an unwavering commitment to quality.

Tasting Notes: A classic pale ale with an amber hue, it opens with a complex citrus and fruity aroma, delivering a full but smooth malt body with a touch of sweetness, followed by a lingering, gentle bitter hop finish that keeps it refreshing.

Westons Vintage Cider 5.2 Westons Cider

A refreshing medium dry sparkling cider that is slowly matured to ensure a rich and characterful aroma. Smooth and rounded, with a flavour packed with apples from a single year's harvest.
