Old Elm Tree

A pub in Durham City.

One of Durham's oldest and classic pubs, dating back to at least 1600. As befits its age, it is reputed to have two ghosts. The comfortable interior comprises of an L-shaped bar room and a top room linked by a set of stairs. Being a very friendly pub, it attracts a good mix of people, including locals, students and visitors to the city. Enjoy a wide range of excellent home-cooked food (try the Elm burger!), the Wednesday quiz (arrive early), a folk group on Mondays and Tuesdays and a film quiz on Sundays.

Deuchars IPA 3.8 Caledonian Brewery

Distinctive and long on refreshment. Solid gold in colour, remarkably aromatic, hints of fresh citrus, distinctive light malt and fresh floral flavours, refreshing zesty citric hop, for a mouth-watering finish.

Tasting Notes: Distinctively radiant, deliciously refreshing, Deuchars is a fabulous balance of malt and hops. Discerning beer drinkers consider this to be the benchmark in quality cask beer and for those new to cask, it's the perfect introduction.

EPA 3.6 Marstons

EPA stands for English Pale Ale. And the stilt walker on the clip is an original hop picker – in this case, Cascade and Styrian hops.

Tasting Notes: They give it the subtle citrus flavours and delicate bitter aftertaste. An easy-drinking, refreshing, light, golden ale which will appeal to both ale and lager drinkers…and the occasional stilt walker.

Hobgoblin - Ruby Beer 4.5 Wychwood Brewery

Traditional Ruby Beer. Hobgoblin is a blend of smooth rich flavours from chocolate and crystal malts, combined with a refreshing bitterness from English Fuggles hops and a dash of citrus aroma from Styrian Goldings.
