The Royal Oak

A pub in Chesterfield.

The Royal Oak is one of the oldest pubs in Chesterfield. The pub serves a variety of beers and a few Real Ales. It also serves food at certain times. In the 12th century this part of Chesterfield contained the meat markets and town butchers. It was called the 'Shambles', which probably came from 'flesh shambles', the old English name for a meat market. The area has recently been restored and is now the cobbled streets are becoming a tourist attraction, lined with old buildings and small shops.

The Royal Oak is in a Tudor building, and a contender for one of the oldest pubs in England. A sign outside states that the pub has been an Inn since 1722. Before that it claims to have been a resting place for the 'the Knights Templar, a band of Crusaders', who had a base at South Normanton and also regularly visited Bolsover Castle from their stronghold at Nottingham Castle.

Drink % Brewery
Birra Moretti 4.6 Heineken

The ultimate Italian lager since 1859, Birra Moretti’s special blend of high quality hops creates a smooth, full bodied beer with wholemeal bread top notes which are cut by a delicate citrus note.

Tasting Notes: It is a bottom fermented beer with a golden colour. This colouring is a result of the type of malt used in brewing. Its alcohol content is 4.6% alcohol by volume. It is not a strong beer and is therefore perfect for drinking at lunch, at dinner or for evenings out with friends

Budvar Original 5.0 Budweiser Budvar

Budvar's best known beer, always worth a drink.

Tasting Notes: By far and away the best known beer in the Budvar portfolio ABV5 Original is available on draught and in two bottle sizes, 330ml and 500ml as well as in 500ml cans. Brewed from nothing but local natural materials in a 100 days brewing cycle ( 90 spent fermenting ) it is universally regarded as one of the world's great lager conditioned beers.

Carling 4.1 Carling

Carling has been Britain’s best selling lager for more than three decades. It is brewed to have the perfect balance of sweetness & bitterness ensuring it is as brilliantly refreshing from the first sip to the last.

Tasting Notes: Carling has been skilfully brewed using lightly kilned British malts, aromatic hops and Carling's unique yeast to create a malty, sweet flavour, balanced with a hoppy ''clean flavoured'' bitterness and the aroma of freshly harvested grain.

Farmers Blonde 4.0 Bradfield Brewery

Locally produced, currently, a top seller, this very pale brilliant blonde beer has citrus and summer fruit aromas making it an extremely refreshing ale.

Tasting Notes: Sheffield Best Brewed 2011 at Sheffield's 37th Steel City Beer & Cider Festival Highly Commended at the Yorkshire Post and Harvey Nichols Taste Awards 2007. GOLD Award Winner in the Speciality Beers category at the 2007 SIBA North Regional Beer Competition.

Guinness Draught 4.2 Guinness

One of the world's best-loved beers, with sweet smelling aromas of coffee and malt, from the first velvety sip to the last, lingering drop, every deep-dark satisfying mouthful in between is pure beauty… pure Guinness.

Tasting Notes: Unmistakeably GUINNESS®, from the first velvet sip to the last, lingering drop and every deep-dark satisfying mouthful in between.

John Smiths Bitter 3.8 John Smith's Brewery

Bronze and amber colouring with a malt and fruity smell.

Tasting Notes: Malt, hop bitterness, a full body with lasting aftertaste. John Smith’s bitter, which is still going strong, is a malty, bitter sweet ale with a slight fruitiness and a bitter aftertaste – we probably took the words right out of your mouth.

Stowford Press 4.5 Westons Cider

A refreshing medium-dry sparkling cider that is bursting with the delicious flavour of crisp cider apples

Tasting Notes:
