Travellers have been coming to Chelmsford for its lively market since King John kindly said back in 1199 that we could have one. Our cosy pub isn't quite that old, but we reckon we've been refreshing townsfolk and visitors alike since at least 1842. Today, we think we have just what it takes to be a great local: a warm welcome, a well-stocked cellar with cracking cask-conditioned ales and great pub-food with a modern flavour. Enough in fact to make you linger just long enough to miss your train. Ah well!
