This tasteful free house in the town’s St Lawrence district has been much extended and modernised over the years. It was a beer shop as early as 1849, although the flint building is much older. The pub had the distinction of being the last beer house in Thanet; not being fully licensed until the 1960's. The pub's name is unique to this country; just why St Lawrence should have a pub so named is a mystery. It is know that convict ships bound for "down under" berthed at Ramsgate Harbour from the 18th century
