The pub takes it's name from the historic memorial situated right outside the pub which was built in the 1670's to commemorate the Great Fire of London and to celebrate the rebuilding of the City. The fire began in a bakers house on Pudding Lane and lasted for 4 days, destroying the greater part of the City. Now you can sit and admire the Monument whilst enjoying a nice pint of ale and some hearty pub food.
