The Old White Swan

A child and dog friendly pub serving food with Sky TV and WiFi in York.

Welcome to The Old White Swan
You will find The Old White Swan in Goodramgate York within a short stroll of York Minster, Parliament Square and Deangate - however you won't find another like it.

Step in to discover a traditional pub of unique character, revered for its eclectic range of real ales and its quality pub food, which are served, as they should be, with a generous measure of famous British hospitality.

The Old White Swan is a collection of buildings with a rather colourful history that dates from the 16th Century. We are one of York's oldest pubs and are said to be haunted. Buildings at the rear of our courtyard date to medieval times and in 1781, the world's tallest man, Mr O'Brian, was exhibited here at the pub. O'Brian stood 8 feet tall and the then landlord charged onlookers a shilling.

The Old White Swan is one of many rare gems in the Nicholson's collection of great British pubs, reputed for their distinctive buildings, intriguing history and vibrant atmosphere.

Drink % Brewery
Hopopotamus IPA 3.8 Broughton Ales

This insanely dry hopped pale ale will blow your palate away with its extreme fruity and zesty hop flavour, and bitter punch.

Tasting Notes: Golden, tropical fruits and grapefruit might be a couple flavours you taste here.

Revival 3.8 Moor Beer Company

A very hoppy and refreshing bitter, brewed to celebrate the revival of the brewery, and meant to revive you when you need it. Light in colour but not flavour thanks to a blend of Pale, Lager, Cara, Crystal and Wheat malts.

Tasting Notes: The hops are a blend of American varieties, with American-style yeast providing a crisp finish. For a beer relatively low in alcohol it has a very full flavour and drinks well above its strength, earning it a multitude of awards and setting the standard for the style. A modern classic!

Ruby Mild 4.4 Rudgate Brewery Ltd

Rudgate Ruby Mild is a dark ale with a red ruby colour, the aroma has a sweet scent of strawberries combined with a smokiness and a soft, rich taste.

Tasting Notes: Nutty, Deeply Rich, Smooth

Stiff Upper Lip 3.8 By The Horns Brewing Co.

A great session beer with a character all to itself. A well balanced mellow malt base gives the beer a clean body whilst a myriad of well selected hops leaves the beer with a wonderfully crisp late bitter finish.

Tasting Notes:
