This former long-standing bank is located next to the site of a Franciscan friary and the nearby gatehouse into this religious house.
The Friars had their own fresh water supply, which they made available to the townspeople via the conduit at the gate of the friary in Bird Street. From the 16th century, the town's water supply was in the hands of the Conduit Lands Trust.
