East Bank Hotel

A venue serving food in Rothes.

The Eastbank Hotel is pleasantly situated in the centre of the Speyside town of Rothes on the A941, 10 miles from Elgin, in the heart of the world famous 'Whisky Trail'. The hotel was built in 1793 by the Freemasons and the upper floor became the first Masonic lodge in Rothes and consecrated in 1795 as the Rothes Lodge 257, now ST John's Operative no 193. The hotel annex was originally the Caledonian Bank opened in 1857, later becoming the Clydedale bank, the orginal bank vault door is still in place in its original colours and dates back to 1857, it was constructed bt Milners of Liverpool and London and the orginal date stamped keys are still owned by the hotel. The Caledonion Bank ran out of money in 1878 forcing the construction of The Glenrothes Distillery being done by future generations of Freemasons to stop. The distillery eventually borrowed the money and the first whisky was produced in 1879. Eastbank Hotel, the bank and Glenrothes Distillery were commandered by the Army during WW2. Eastbank Hotel and The Glenrothes Distillery are now further linked together with the opening of a mini vistors centre, with exclusive tours, nosing and tasting sessions and a chance to purchase this excellent malt whisky.
