City Arms

A dog friendly pub serving food with WiFi in Cardiff.

One of Cardiff’s most iconic pubs and positioned opposite the Town Quay, The City Arms is also as stone’s away from the Millennium Stadium – explaining its popularity with rugby fans...

Recently revamped, the pub is decorated with sepia-toned prints in keeping with the theme of rugby and Cardiff’s history. The beer selection on offer is unusually varied - with a range of cask ales available to try.

Built in the 1880’s the pub was named The City Arms in 1905 in celebration of Cardiff’s new 'City' status. The pub is owned by the region’s biggest family brewer, Brains. The brewery is in Cardiff itself, and started out in a small stone building behind a Cardiff pub in 1882. Make sure you sample some of their very special ales while you’re on the premises!

Due to its historical proximity to the old cattle market and slaughterhouse, the pub used to be called ‘The Van of Flesh Tavern’. However, by 1858 it had been renamed ‘The Cattle Market Tavern’ before it took on the City Arms label.
