The Cockatoo has been a pub since 1923 and was initially a hostelry for Scottish miners at local pits. The Glass family acquired the pub in 1997 and have built up an excellent reputation as a family restaurant for wonderful food with a great atmosphere. The Cockatoo recently won a highly commended award in the annual Scottish family pub of the year from the Scottish Licensed trade Association.
The original wing of the building remains unchanged but various extensions have been added over the years; including our large glass conservatory overlooking the French boules pit, child’s play area and beer garden.
Wherever possible we use locally sourced, fresh food for our extensive menu, which is complimented by a Specials menu at the weekend. From chicken Piri-Piri, haggis nachos and chicken stuffed with Stornoway black pudding to Thai green curry, sizzling chicken fajitas and homemade steak pie with real Scotch beef…there is something to suit every taste! We also have a children’s menu and a senior citizens menu – which is comprised of best-selling dishes from our full menu at discounted prices!
We have recently introduced a light bite menu, which you can enjoy in our large country lounge in front of our real log fire.
