Fox at Lyng

A child friendly pub serving food in Norwich.

Set in Norfolk’s Wensum Valley, Lyng is in a beautiful part of the country which is very popular with walkers and anglers, so once you have had enough of outdoor action there is nothing more relaxing than a meal at the freshly rejuvenated Fox.

On the main street, and beside a stream in the charming Village of Lyng, The Fox Country Pub & Restaurant dates back almost 300 years.

In 2014, The Fox was taken over by Husband and Wife team Victoria King and Gavin Hunt, who also run one of Norfolk’s most popular Pub-Restaurants, The Lodge in North Tuddenham.

Fully renovated, we’ve retained traditional elements such as the beamed ceiling, open fire and tiled floor that add to the warm, welcoming feel and contrasted them with modern styling. The resulting mood is fresh and eclectic without belying the business’s Country Pub origins.

Serious about food and drink, The Fox features a wide range of Real Ales and fine wines, together with a tasty menu formed from the best local produce. All dishes are freshly prepared and we believe that you will always find something that will appeal to you.

Children’s Menus are available and we can also cater for any special dietary requirements.

We have Special Offers on running through most of the week, please see our ‘News / Offers‘ page for further details.

For brighter days, The Fox has an enclosed garden with lovely views of the church.

The Fox has off-road parking.

Adnams Ghost Ship 4.5% 4.5 Adnams

This is a Pale Ale with a pithy bitterness and a malty backbone. Brewed with a selection of malts – Pale Ale, Rye Crystal and Cara – Adnams use Citra and a blend of other American hop varieties to create some great citrus flavours. Ghost Ship is inspired by one of Adnams’ most haunted pubs in one of the UK’s most haunted villages, the Bell at Walberswick. The shores of Walberswick are littered with eerie wrecks of smuggling ships from a bygone era

Adnams Southwold Bitter 3.7 Adnams

Southwold Bitter is a beautiful copper-coloured beer, late and dry-hopped with Fuggles for a distinctive, lingering hoppiness. Brewed with the finest East Anglian Pale Ale malt barley, sourced locally to the brewery. We use Fuggles hops which we add late in the boil to preserve the herbal flavours of this traditional English hop. We add more Fuggles to each cask so that the flavour of the hops infuses into the beer. It’s a perfect 3.7% abv in cask and 4.1% abv in bottle and can.

Foster's 3.7 Heineken

Foster's is the ultimate ice-cold refreshment. Its balance of subtle fruitiness and vanilla is ideal for the sweeter-toothed lager lover. The perfect session beer to enjoy with mates.

Tasting Notes: A light-coloured lager style, it presents full malt character with a balanced clean hop bitterness. Combined with a slightly hoppy, but yeasty/malty nose, Foster's lager is a full bodied beer with excellent drinkability.

Guinness Original 4.2 Guinness

Swirling clouds tumble as the storm begins to calm.

Tasting Notes: Unmistakeably GUINNESS®, from the first velvet sip to the last, lingering drop. And every deep-dark satisfying mouthful in between.

John Smiths Bitter 3.8 John Smith's Brewery

Bronze and amber colouring with a malt and fruity smell.

Tasting Notes: Malt, hop bitterness, a full body with lasting aftertaste. John Smith’s bitter, which is still going strong, is a malty, bitter sweet ale with a slight fruitiness and a bitter aftertaste – we probably took the words right out of your mouth.

Kronenbourg 1664 5.0 Heineken

Kronenbourg 1664's pleasure is in its light lemon and herbal flavours from the Alsace hops, and clean bittersweet finish.

Tasting Notes: This exceptional beer originated in Alsace in Eastern France and is brewed with the exclusive Strisselspalt hop, known as the caviar of hops, which gives it its unique aromatic and fruity flavour.

Sundew 4.1 Woodforde's Brewery - DUPLICATE

Golden

Tasting Notes: Subtle golden beer - pale in colour and light on the palate with the distinctive hoppy Woodforde’s finish. Deliciously golden and refreshing.

Wherry 3.8 Woodforde's Brewery - DUPLICATE

Light but full of flavour and with a delicious citrus aftertaste. Great with Norfolk Ham and Turkey or on its own.

Tasting Notes: Fresh and zesty with crisp floral flavours. A background of sweet malt and a hoppy ‘grapefruit’ bitter finish characterises this champion bitter.

Aspall Harry Sparrow 4.6 Aspall Cyder

Harry Sparrow Classic English Cyder was created to honour the man who was Aspall’s Cyder maker for over 50 years from the early 1920’s. It reflects the rich and diverse styles of cyder Harry enjoyed both making and drinking.

Tasting Notes: Mid golden to amber in colour, Aspall Harry Sparrow is a full bodied medium dry cyder that has a wonderful fruit aroma with floral and cedar wood overtones.
