Old Wellington

The Old Wellington is a pub in Manchester housed within one of the oldest buildings in Manchester. The building was built in 1552 next to market square which is now known as market street. In 1554 the Byron family ran a drapers shop in part of the building, then in 1692 the famous writer John Byron was born in this historic building. In the 17th century a third storey was added to the building to create a living space.

In the 1970's the building was raised 1.5 metres and the structure was moved to shambles square so the arndale complex could be developed, the pub then reopened in 1981. In 1996 the Manchester Arndale complex was attacked by the IRA, The Old Wellington sustained considerable damage and was moved to its current location which is now known as shambles square during the Manchester redevelopment project.

We now boast a two storey modern restaurant. The bar downstairs has a traditional feel with the old characteristics that have stood the test of time. Throughout the building the Old Wellington has beautiful traditional beams that supports and makes the structure of the building. The large beer garden situated outside is perfect for dining and drinkers.

The pub offers traditional British food, and a wide selection of ales that have been certified by cask marque.Come rain or shine the Old Wellington offers an excellent service within the pub as well as outside, offering a wonderful menu with a great selection of drinks to suit individuals as well as families.
