We (Nicky and Jay) bought the pub after seeing the windows boarded up in early 2011. We considered this little pub to be our local so the sight of it closing was enough of a wrench to persuade us to buy it and ensure its future as a community hub.
The pub itself is several hundred years old and, although the original thatched roof has long since been replaced by slates and the area around the original traditional Welsh building has changed a little over the years, Tafarn John Y Gwas retains its olde worlde feel to this day.
With the wood burning stove in the snug, the low beamed ceilings and the communal bar area where locals and visitors meet for a chat and traditional bar games you could easily imagine a similar scene from any era over the past few centuries.
Our philosophy from the outset was to retain all of the features that the locals have come to love about the place whilst injecting what we consider to be the best bits of the other pubs we've visited across the UK.
