The Parrot

A pub serving food in Canterbury.

The Parrot is the oldest pub in Canterbury, and one of the oldest buildings, built on Roman foundations in the 14th century, as the famous Cathedral towers were being built just a few hundred yards away. It is located in the centre of Canterbury, a short walk from the city’s major tourist attractions.

The Shepherd Neame pub has retained many of its historic features, including medieval beams, oak floorboards and three open fireplaces, just the right kind of welcome whilst the team are dedicated to making sure you enjoy every aspect of your visit.

Serving well cooked, flavoursome food using quality ingredients, which are locally sourced where possible making for a truly delightfully offering.

The Parrot also serves a quality range of local cask ales served in a vibrant cosy, clean & welcoming environment.

Hidden away down a picturesque cobbled street in Northgate. A two minute walk away from ample parking.

Drink % Brewery
Asahi 5.0 Asahi

Light straw color with a large foamy white head. The aroma has rice, grassy hops, and grain.

Tasting Notes: Clean and crisp with a restrained bitterness and a subtle citrus aroma, this light golden beer was Japan''''s first "dry" lager. Its deft, distinct dryness comes from a carefully concise fermentation period, a minimum four week maturation period and the traditional addition of a small amount of rice. Fresh and with plenty of balanced finesse, it''''s an ideal accompaniment to the well-defined flavours and textures found in sushi.

Early Bird 4.3 Shepherd Neame

A fabulously refreshing, bracing beer that hails early maturing Goldings hops in style.

Tasting Notes: Alive and open with a golden glint in its eye, it stirs up spring sensations of blossom, honey, freshly cut grass and plenty of pine on the nose. The gentle bitterness, soothed by an undercurrent of light biscuit malt, delivers a dry finish. Superb with salads and whitebait.

Guinness Original 4.2 Guinness

Swirling clouds tumble as the storm begins to calm.

Tasting Notes: Unmistakeably GUINNESS®, from the first velvet sip to the last, lingering drop. And every deep-dark satisfying mouthful in between.

Oranjeboom 3.9 Shepherd Neame

A delicious, easy-drinking Dutch drop with a hay-like hue and a herbaceous, grassy and fruity fragrance. Citrus notes on the palate speak softly of orange, kiwi and lemongrass buttressed with a hint of caramel sweetness and a gentle, drifting finish.

Tasting Notes: Fruity, citrus, caramel

Samuel Adams Blonde Ambition 4.5 Shepherd Neame

Brewed at Shepherd Neame’s Faversham brewery from a recipe devised in conjunction with the Boston Beer Company, it uses equal measures of US and UK hops.

Tasting Notes: The result is a summer pale ale with a delightful blend of grapefruit notes from the US Cascade hops and grassy earthiness from the Kent hops.

Spitfire Amber 4.2 Shepherd Neame

The beer is named after the legendary Spitfire aeroplane designed by RJ Mitchell. The versatility of the aircraft and the courage of its pilots were essential to victory and were a key symbol of the spirit of that time.

Tasting Notes: An infusion of three Kentish hops adorns this beautifully balanced, blood-orange tinted British bitter with an acutely aromatic allure. Hints of marmalade, red grapes and pepper are thrust from a springboard of warm, mellow malts. The floating fruity finish signs off with a smidgen of spice and raspberry.

Whitstable Bay Pale Ale 3.9 Shepherd Neame

Whitstable Bay Pale Ale is designed to suit all palates and offer a light, refreshing taste. The sweet maltiness balances perfectly with the fresh pine notes provided by the hops added late in the process, to offer a light-coloured, thirst-quenching ale.

Tasting Notes: Refreshing, pine, fresh

Symonds Founders Reserve 4.5 Heineken

Symonds Founder's Reserve is a distinctive premium cider at 4.5% abv.

Tasting Notes: Blended from the finest Herefordshire apples including Dabinett & Michelin varietals; resulting in a characteristically fresh, crisp, fruity cider, with a high degree of complexity and depth of character coupled with Symonds rich heritage from a golden age of traditional Hereford cider making.
