The Vigilance

A child friendly pub serving food with WiFi in Brixham.

This Wetherspoon pub is named after the last sailing trawler to be built by Uphams, in 1926. The Vigilance has since been restored and is once again moored at Brixham. Fishing and Brixham have gone hand in hand for centuries, the industry being a major source of local work.

Drink % Brewery
Abbot Ale 5.0 Greene King PLC

Full flavoured, smooth and mature taste with fruit cake characters , a malty richness and superb hop balance.

Tasting Notes: Mahogany in colour and brewed for longer to create a rich malty, and mature flavour.

Bays Devon Dumpling 5.1 Bays Brewery

A strong golden beer with a fresh hop character. This ale has a smooth taste with a balanced sweetness throughout. Devonshire through and through!

Tasting Notes: Sweet, smooth

Hobgoblin Gold 4.2 Wychwood Brewery

Hobgoblin Gold is the latest beer carrying the little fella’s moniker, and while Gold might be lighter in colour, it’s definitely no lightweight

Tasting Notes: A combination of six hop varieties (yes six!) & an infusion of wheat and malted barley has resulted in the perfect golden beer – with a huge hop punch.

Otter Head 5.8 Otter Brewery

At 5.8% abv the award-winning Otter Head is their strongest beer. They believe that the key to brewing a great strong beer is to make it well-balanced with a good use of hops. This makes Otter Head easily drinkable and an excellent choice with food.

Tasting Notes: Whilst it has a distinctive barley wine, old ale character it remains light to drink with a malty, fruity and slightly sweet flavour with a long bittersweet aftertaste. The fruit and malt aroma sits well with the beer’s deep, luxurious red/brown colour – still a firm favourite on many bars.

Wallops Wood 4.0 Bowman Ales

A light chestnut in colour which puts it into the 'brown beer' category.

Tasting Notes: As far as flavour goes, it tends rather more towards the malt than the hops, though there is a pleasing hop taste right at the finish. The aroma is light and pleasant.
