Ye Olde Kings Head

A child friendly pub serving food in Chester.

Ye Olde Kings Head, built in 1622, on foundations dating back to the early 1200’s, boasting Elizabethan fireplaces and timber recovered from one of Admiral Lord Nelsons sunken ships, this inn has many stories to tell.

During a refurbishment in the 1930’s, a sword was found hidden under the floorboards of bedroom number 4, which can now be found hanging proudly on the wall of the bar.

Ye Olde Kings Head is amongst the most haunted inns in the country, boasting 13 resident spirits. 6 of the 8 hotel rooms are rife with paranormal activity ranging from strange noises, shadows and poltergeist activity.

All of our food is home cooked and sourced as locally as possible. Our meat is supplied from award winning butchers Noel Bakers and our veg from Hwarden farms, just 5 miles down the road.

At Ye Olde Kings Head we take great pleasure in supporting local micro-breweries and have an ever changing roster of guest ales from the dark malty notes of the heartiest stouts to the light refreshing citrus highs of the palest ales.

Of course we always have our house ales on too!

Sharp's Doom Bar Amber Ale 4.0 Sharp's Brewery Ltd

Doom Bar is a perfectly balanced beer combining subtle yet complex flavours, Doom Bar is both satisfying and deliciously moreish.

Tasting Notes: “The aroma of Doom Bar combines an accomplished balance of spicy resinous hop, inviting sweet malt and delicate roasted notes. The mouth feel is a perfectly balanced and complex blend of succulent dried fruit, lightly roasted malty notes and a subtle yet assertive bitterness. The bitterness remains into the finish with dry fruity notes which implore the drinker to go back for more.” Stuart Howe, Head Brewer.

Special Ale 4.4 Black Sheep Brewery Plc

A robust and agile amber ale, first introduced to our range in 1994, Special Ale carries an explosion of fruit on the aroma and palate with the fruity esters offering notes of raisins and pear drops. The malt blend provides notes of toffee, caramel and biscuit which balances perfectly against those flavoursome British hops. Superbly bittersweet and an icon of our range, Special Ale holds a special place in our heart

Tasting Notes: Dark fruits hit the palate whilst the malt offers those sweet toffee and biscuit flavours.
