York Brewery

A brewery in York.

Founded in 1996, York Brewery has been producing quality handcrafted ales with passion ever since. The brewery can be found tucked up inside York’s city walls, a stone’s throw from Micklegate Bar, the historic royal entrance to the city.

Built around 1700 the brewery site’s most notable former occupant was Joseph Aloysius Hansom (1803-82), inventor of the Hansom Cab that replaced the original Hackney Carriages.

Our ales are traditionally produced with our own contemporary twists thrown in along the way, drawing a lot of inspiration from York’s history and culture with a keen focus on the city’s rich Roman heritage. Our branding is clean and classic, whilst standing up well modern scrutiny.

We have a beer to suit any occasion, from a cheeky midweek pint to a formal meal setting. In fact, we love to suggest food pairings for our ales, even working with a local chocolate producer for some more unusual matches.

Since day one our mission has been to brew tasty, good quality real ale from the centre of York. Guided by our head brewer Nick, our team pour their all into every pint, and we love nothing more than to share it!
