The Duke of Wellington

A pub serving food in Shoreham.

The transition from a Dark Star pub to being independently owned marks another stage in the life of The Duke of Wellington… From its origins as a Victorian boozer (and some say, brothel) hosting Shoreham harbour and boatyard workers; it reinvented itself in 1928 with a (John Leopold Denham) façade, incorporating Arts and Crafts design and more genteel interior. Like many other pubs, the early 80’s saw its interior ripped out with the loss of many features from the period. However, the stained glass windows remain along with original plaster work. The open space was after all put to good use accommodating live music, and from 2006, this was combined with a plentiful supply of beautiful ales under Dark Star ownership. Why not come down and pay us a visit!

American Pale Ale 4.7 Dark Star Brewing Co.

The yeast strain used for the brewing of this pale ale is specially imported from the USA. The low colour Maris Otter malt provides a perfect light colour and dryness to complement the crisp taste and aroma of the hops.

Tasting Notes: Citrus, Zesty, Dry

Hepworth Conqueror Stout 4.5 Hepworth & Company Brewers Ltd

Conqueror is a stout full of character. It is a triumphant blend of flavours; sweet and malty, smooth as silk and rich as dark red rubies.

Tasting Notes:

Hophead 3.8 Dark Star Brewing Co.

An extremely clean-drinking pale golden ale with a strong floral aroma and elderflower notes from the Cascade hops. This beer is full-bodied and full-flavoured yet gentle enough to make it a favourite session beer.

Tasting Notes:

Nettle Thrasher 4.4 Elland Brewery Limited

This is a premium “Best Bitter”. A copper flavoursome ale, complex and fruity.

Tasting Notes: Made from a combination of six malts, complimented with English Challenger and Bramling Cross hops to give a smooth fruity character and delicate blackcurrant aroma.

Organic Dark Lager 4.7 Freedom Brewery Ltd

Organic dark gets its colour from the addition of Crystal Malt. Roasted toffee flavours from the blend of malts produce a natural sweetness which is balanced by the hops. A deep ruby brown lager, it has low bitterness.

Tasting Notes:

Revelation 5.7 Dark Star Brewing Co.

A blend of Centennial, Liberty, Cascade, and Citra aroma hops by the sack full – then dry hopped during conditioning using our ‘Hoptimizer’ (Industrial sized hookah)
