Black Annis 5.0

A wickedly robust porter, with Star Anise which gives a subtle aniseed flavour. This devilish ale has aromas of dandelion and burdock on the nose and a real depth of flavour with a hint of coffee.

Tasting Notes: Leicester folklore tells the story of Black Annis, who clawed her lair into the rocks of Dane Hills with her vast talons. It is said that that Annis roamed for her prey in the dead of night, reaching through the windows of nearby homes with her long arms. Until the late 18th century, the people of Leicester held a mock hunt outside Annis’ bower where a dead cat, soaked in aniseed was dragged throughout the streets. To tell the tale this Halloween, we’ve brewed Black Annis. A wickedly robust porter, our brewing team experimented with Star Anise which results in a subtle aniseed flavour which links to the story. This devilish ale has aromas of dandelion and burdock on the nose and a real depth of flavour with a hint of coffee. It’s not your usual porter and will appeal to lots of drinkers!
