The Artichoke Inn

A pub serving food in Canterbury.

The Artichoke dates back to the 15th Century, formerly being a medieval hall house. In 1994 repairs to the property began with the removal of thick layered cement render from the exterior, far more of the original 15th Century timber frame of the building was revealed.
Traditional lime wash was applied to the elevations of the building to complete the medieval appearance, providing Chartham with a unique glimpse of the past.

The Artichoke has been with the brewery, Shepherd Neamefor over 300 years. Look out for the table set over a glass-topped well in the dining area.

Close to the North Downs and Stour Valley Way with woodland trails on its doorstep, a warm welcome awaits walkers who want to refuel on scrumptious food

Spitfire Amber 4.2 Shepherd Neame

The beer is named after the legendary Spitfire aeroplane designed by RJ Mitchell. The versatility of the aircraft and the courage of its pilots were essential to victory and were a key symbol of the spirit of that time.

Tasting Notes: An infusion of three Kentish hops adorns this beautifully balanced, blood-orange tinted British bitter with an acutely aromatic allure. Hints of marmalade, red grapes and pepper are thrust from a springboard of warm, mellow malts. The floating fruity finish signs off with a smidgen of spice and raspberry.
