The Boars or "The Three Boars" originally stood on a site next door to the current building and dates back to the 17th Century. A tragic fire in the original pub destroyed much of the original building and for a while The Boars licence was moved to the smithy next door until a corrugated iron roof was put over the remains of the old house, forming a single storey building. Trade continued in the old premises until a new Boars opened in 1929, `built' by Mrs Routh Clarke of the Wattlefield estate, was completed alongside. The original building with its corrugated roof can still be seen next door to the current pub.
